Titans Handily Defeat Bengals: Week 4 in the Music City

The Titans had a complete turnaround from last week’s game in Cleveland, beating the Bengals 27-3 after losing to the Browns 27-3 in week 3.

The Titans looked great today after last week’s awful performance in which the Titans had the least amount of offensive yards since moving from Houston to Tennessee. The Titans were better in every category offensively and defensively compared to last week vs the Browns.

The first quarter ended with the game being at an even score 3-3. The Titans then scored 21 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter and 3 more in the 3 quarter.

Titans Offense

Ryan Tannehill had a pretty good game with 18 completions on 25 attempts for 240 passing yards, 1 TD, and 1 Int. The Interception came in the second half of the game off an unecessary reckless pass downfield into double coverage. The interception didn’t make much of a difference as the Titans were already ahead by double digit points and the Bengals drive resulted in a punt.

Derrick Henry looked like himself today, rushing for 122 yards and 1 TD on 22 carries while averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He also threw a TD on 1 attempt for 2 yards. After a slow start to the season Henry earned his first 100 yard rushing game of the season, while getting his second rushing touchdown of the season. Henry is now 5-6 in pass attempts for his NFL career with 2 TDs.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was the prominent pass catcher for the Titans today with 51 yards and 1 TD on 5 receptions. Westbrook-Ikhine turned out to be the number 2 receiver today with Treylon Burks missing the game due to a knee injury. DeAndre Hopkins was also productive with 63 yards on 4 receptions.

The O-line was much better this week allowing 3 sacks compared to last week’s 5 sacks. The Titans had 227 passing yards and 173 rushing yards for a total of 400 offensive yards compared to last week’s 94 total offensive yards.

Titans Defense

The Titans Defense was very solid against the Bengals, holding a banged up Joe Burrow (calf) to only 165 passing yards with 20 completions on 30 attempts . Joe Mixon had 67 rushing yards on 14 carries for an average of 4.8 yards per carry. Ja’Marr Chase was held to only 7 receptions for 73 yards. Arden Key and Jeffery Simmons both had a sack in the game. Jeffery Simmons also played on offense as a blocker for Derrick Henry’s touchdown pass.

Speacial Teams

Nick Folk started the scoring for the Titans late in the first quarter with a 53 yard field goal. He then kicked a 35 yard field goal in the third quarter. Folk was 2/2 in field goal attempts and 3/3 in Pat attempts. Folk has so far been a good investment for the Titans since they traded a 2025 seventh-round pick for him back near the end of August.

Ryan Stonehouse punted the ball twice in the Titans win, with an average of 46 yards per punt while punting the ball inside the Bengals 20 yard line both times.
